About the Book
Geomorphology is an engaging and interdisciplinary field of science. The panoramic scenic beauty of the Himalaya has long attracted the attention of tourists, while its landforms and related processes present an exciting challenge to scientists. Its majestic charm and grandeur inspire earth scientists to understand and appreciate these features in terms of lithology, structure, climate, and biota across both time and space.
Not much work has been done in this aspect of Himalayan studies. This volume of invited papers is an attempt to compile the limited information available on different parts of this great mountain chain, focusing on the varied nature of existing studies with a view to:
(a) acquaint the reader with the nature of work being done; and
(b) identify the obvious gaps, both in terms of:
(i) the areas that need further exploration, and
(ii) the feasible approaches for study that can be applied to selected areas as well as replicated elsewhere.
